02-12-2010 West Mercia Police launching Operation Citadel on Stafford Park Industrial Estate
At a recent AGM meeting of (OTSSB) One Telford Safer Stronger Businesses, Detective Chief Inspector Alan Edwards of the West Mercia Police launched Operation Citadel, a co-ordinated initiative designed to reduce crime significantly on business parks throughout the borough of Telford and Wrekin thereby making them unattractive to the criminal element.
Stafford Park has been selected to act as a beta site for evaluation and here at Business Watch we will, be actively involved in this project to increase crime awareness, share information and advise Shrop Watch members of the latest services and initiatives which will be introduced to reduce and combat crime. It is envisaged that we can evidence through various mediums such as Shrop Watch and its members, The Chamber of Commerce, OTSSB, Local Authority, Local Security Service Providers and the media that Operation Citadel on Stafford Park will become a resounding success and a model suitable to roll out to neighbouring estates. The initiative could also attract much needed government funding to enhance the services the initiative will provide. The proposed scheme has already been tabled to the Government and Baroness Newlove who will oversee community activism as part of the governments "Big Society" initiative will be visiting Telford in the New Year once the scheme is underway.
The well established Shrop Watch Scheme on Stafford Park operated by Business Watch Guarding will play an important role in this project and the first step for member companies is to register free of charge onto the West Mercia Police Ring Master system if you have not already done so on the following portal http://www.twpcm.org/rmwebportal/startup.aspx?selectedtab=home&tabstate=portal
Once registered you will immediately be able to receive email notifications of crime occurrences, observation requests and crime intelligence. You can also share information on this site which will be if appropriate fed back from the West Mercia to ourselves for action by the Shrop Watch security patrols. You will also receive valuable information about Operation Citadel as it progresses via this secure site. I cannot urge you enough to participate in what ever way you can.
Finally at this stage we are actively looking for tactical group members from businesses off the estate who can assist in the initial launch of the scheme and maybe participate fully in the quarterly OTSSB meetings. It may be that you previously sat on the Stafford Park Business Watch Committee if so your help would be appreciated. It is vital that the tactical group is made up of participants from Stafford Park if we are to succeed in this venture and secure a safer environment for the future on this industrial park and for the future furtherance of this roll out initiative.
